At an office, the doctor will examine the eye, look for foreign materials on the eye, in the eyelid, and in the conjunctiva sac. A careful consideration is to look for anything that has penetrated because depending on the amount, some materials need to removed by a surgeon.

Upon removal of a foreign body, cleaning the eye, and evaluating the need for prescription eye drops are done next. That also will determine the next follow up.
