Dry Eye Syndrome
Dry Eyes from various means
Dry Eye comes in various severity stages and many experience it without knowing it.
Dry Eye is a condition where there is not enough lubrication for the ocular surface. Lack of tear production, clogged eye glands, or inflammation are common causes. Patients can experience blurry vision, a feeling of sand in their eyes, strain, discomfort, and light sensitivity.
Causes range from age related decreases in tear production, to clogged glands that don't produce enough tears, to innervation problems with the gland or cornea (front surface).
When the front surface cornea is affected, vision will be blurry and patients may state a decreased or increased sensitivity and vision that can take a while to recover.
Treatments involve applying artificial tears, warm compresses, lead weights on lids, serum tears, an antibody work up and monitoring.
